We Love Sandwiches! A Sandwich Round Up

Hello and welcome, friends! Sandwiches are an easy go-to for us at the Djalali House; for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In the winter I love a good soup and sandwich combination. As soon as spring begins to warm things up, I love to take a sandwich and a magazine out to the screened porch for lunch. Seriously, we love sandwiches, so today I have rounded up our top 10 favorite sandwiches from the archives.

Italian Sandwich

My Take on an Italian Sandwich

This is my take on a Classic Italian Sandwich. I am eschewing definitions for this sandwich though. Because honestly, I suppose the only traditional Italian thing about it is the Italian dressing and the fact that it has a few meats, some provolone, tomato, lettuce and a homemade giardiniera. Get as creative as you want to with this one. Make a couple of these long boys and slice them into thirds for a great game day lunch!

Mushrooms and Greens Grilled Cheese

This is a big grilled cheese; chock full of sautéd Swiss chard and mushrooms with smoked gouda and provolone cheese. Grilled cheese sandwiches are like pizza, sky is the limit when it comes to flavor combinations. Some of my favorites include both sweet and savory flavors. Today’s grilled cheese though, is all savory – it’s Mushrooms and Greens Grilled Cheese.

The Very Best Steak Sandwich

We love our sandwiches over here at Djalali Cooks and a classic steak sandwich with caramelized onions and provolone cheese is one of Alex’s favorites. This sandwich is a great use of leftover steak, but if you want to cook up a big steak specially for this sandwich, well, that’ll work too!

Picnic Sandwich with Artichoke Pepper Spread

Honestly, when isn’t a good sandwich a good idea? Picnic or not, this beauty, sliced up to serve a group along side salads and other mains and sides, would be a perfect addition to any brunch, lunch or cookout. Baking a store-bought pizza dough this way is so perfect for this recipe. It’s super simple and the fresh-baked aroma and flavor make this sandwich extra-special.

Super Crunchy Eggplant Parmesan Sandwich

I love Eggplant Parmesan, but one thing I do not like is the soggy situation that often happens. You go through all the trouble of getting that crunchy breaded exterior only to have it get soggy with tomato sauce and cheese. This happens less in sandwich form, but this recipe ensures a crunchy texture will remain for our sandwiches. Let’s do it: Super Crunchy Eggplant Parmesan Sandwich!

Ham and Cheese Breakfast Croissant Sandwich

Monday morning calls for a Breakfast Sandwich. Let’s go for broke and make it a Ham and Cheese Breakfast Croissant Sandwich. I love the flavors of a Croque Madame, so are we starting there and throwing in our little twist with the croissant. This recipe is super easy, you can make a bunch of them at a time if you have a house full, or you can do one or two. The effort is pretty much the same. Let’s do these Breakfast Sandwiches!

The French Dip

Today we are pulling out the Instant Pot for a scrumptious French Dip Sandwich. You can absolutely do this in a slow cooker, it’ll take all day, but you know what? It’s totally worth it. And the aroma of a pot roast cooking will be a nice companion for a chilly Sunday. And, as if that wasn’t comforting enough, you get to eat the sandwich at the end! Win-win for The French Dip!

Sandwich Round Up

Like Pizza, Tacos, Burritos…Quesadillas (the list goes on…), sandwiches are one of my favorite foods because you can get really creative and experimental without breaking the bank. Also, using leftovers in creative ways is one of my favorite challenges in the kitchen and sandwiches are a perfect canvas for leftovers and “clean out the fridge” types of recipes. I hope you enjoyed today’s Sandwich Round Up. Maybe some of the ideas are new to you, or maybe this is a nice little reminder of sandwiches you haven’t thought of for a while. Either way, check out the recipes and get creative, make them your own! Follow my Pinterest Boards for all the Djalali Cooks Recipes. Take care and be well everyone! xo Kelly
