Hello! Welcome to Pizza and a Movie. Today’s pizza has a ton of rich flavor thanks to marinated grilled artichokes and dollops of creamy goat cheese. We have a little bit of browned pancetta tossed in for a delicious bacon flavor and a crunchy, chewy texture. Thick slices of fresh tomato give it such beautiful color. For our movie this week, since Oscar season is upon us, I thought we might make our way through the Best Picture Nominees. Let’s jump in with Promising Young Woman.
I love the way chèvre and artichoke hearts go together; whether you go with grilled marinated chokes, or even the canned variety, the thick leafy texture of the artichoke hearts is so nice with the tangy, cloud-like creaminess of the goat cheese. Let’s start by preheating the oven to 450 degrees.
The prep is super simple, just browning the pancetta and slicing and removing the seed of the tomato is all we’re doing. This pizza has a garlic olive oil base. So just use a garlic press to press or mince a few cloves of garlic into a few tablespoons of olive oil. We will use this oil to brush on the crust when the pizza comes out of the oven too.
Pizza Assembly
I am using the pizza steel for this pizza, but it will easily translate to a pan pizza. Whichever you prefer. Once the dough is stretched or rolled out, brush the garlic olive oil over the dough and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella. Evenly scatter the artichoke hearts over the mozzarella. You can break apart the artichoke hearts a little as you place them on the pie.
Pancetta and goat cheese Tomato slices
Follow the artichoke hearts with the pancetta and then the chèvre and finally, the tomato slices. Bake the pie for about 15 minutes and when it the crust is golden and the cheese has brown spots and is bubbly, it’s ready!
Artichoke Chèvre Pizza
Transfer the pizza to a cutting board and brush the crust with the garlic olive oil, slice and serve. Our pizza is ready, let’s get to the movie.
Movie Night: Promising Young Woman
Every year, we try to see all the Best Picture Nominees ahead of the Academy Awards. And every year, we try to watch them all in a just few weeks – this year is no different. We have already seen a couple of the Best Picture nominees here on Pizza and a Movie: Nomadland and Mank, but I hadn’t seen any of the other nominees. I randomly chose to watch Promising Young Woman this week.
Honestly, I am not sure how this movie is nominated for Best Picture. Especially with films like Mank and Nomadland on the list. I feel like this movie really tried; with hyper-feminized set decoration and saturation, and its strange air of mystery, but it did not deliver. On its face, it’s a revenge film, but the revenge isn’t very inspired. And then in the middle there’s a rom/com element (?). Even the ending, which was surprising (only because I wasn’t sure where the whole thing was going to begin with), lacked luster. This film was more about a woman unhappy with herself than getting revenge, it seemed.
Thank you all for joining me today for Pizza and a Movie! Definitely try this Artichoke Chèvre Pizza; it’s super easy, almost no prep, it’s flavorful and texturally satisfying. Do you like to see all the Oscar Nominated pictures? Have you seen Promising Young Woman? If so, what did you think? Let’s have a discussion! Reach out here, or on facebook to chat about it. I am super excited about the upcoming Sunday Supper, so stay tuned! See you Sunday, Take care and be well. xo Kelly
